Nick Faldo, born on July 18, 1957 in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, is an English professional golfer and golf course architect. He won six majors: the Open Championship in 1987, 1990 and 1992, and the Masters in 1989, 1990 and 1996. He held the world No. 1 ranking for a total of 97 weeks. He played 11 Ryder Cups for Europe, more than any other European, and captained the side in 2008. He was knighted in 2009 and is styled Sir Nick Faldo. Since retiring from competition he has been known as a broadcaster, and from 2006 to 2022 he was the lead analyst on CBS golf coverage in the United States.
He founded his design firm, Faldo Design, in 1991. Working from Windsor in England, it has taken on more than 50 projects in 20 countries across five continents. An early piece of work was Chart Hills in Kent, designed with Steve Smyers and opened in 1991. In Asia, the courses credited to Faldo Design include the Faldo course at Mission Hills in Shenzhen, China (1999), the Faldo course at Eagle Ridge in the Philippines (1997), Laguna Lăng Cô in Vietnam (2013) and Angkor Golf Resort in Cambodia. Faldo has said of his approach that golf is as much a game of the head as of the body, and that he therefore sets out to build courses that ask the player to think and settle on the best way to attack a hole.
Among the courses listed on GoGolf, four in Indonesia and Thailand are credited to Faldo. Jababeka Golf & Country Club in Cikarang, Indonesia, is described as a Faldo design on the club’s own website. The three Thai courses are attributed to him by golf booking sites and the like, but do not appear in the official project list on the Faldo Design site. All four can be booked through GoGolf.
