Golf in Bogor

Bogor is an inland city in West Java, south of Jakarta. It sits on high ground ringed by Mount Salak and Mount Gede, and is known for its abundance of greenery and water. Because rainfall is heavy it is nicknamed the rain city, and under Dutch rule it was developed as a hill retreat. The Bogor Botanical Gardens and the Presidential Palace still stand at the centre of the city.

In contrast to the noise of Jakarta, hills, streams and mountain ridges are the everyday scenery here. The golf courses use that terrain as they found it. Rivers cut across the layouts, every hole has a change in elevation, and mountains stand in the distance. It is an entirely different experience from the flat courses in the city.

Getting there from the airport and Jakarta

From Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, Riverside Golf Club is the closest at about 53 minutes and Rainbow Hills Golf Club the furthest at about 70 minutes. All eight courses fall within roughly an hour of the airport.

From central Jakarta the drive heads south on the Jagorawi toll road. The Sentul area comes up fairly quickly, but at weekends leisure traffic builds and the journey stretches. Allow yourself time.

The biggest difference from the courses inside Jakarta is elevation. Klub Golf Bogor Raya sits about 300 metres above sea level and Palm Hill Golf Club is on the Sentul plateau, so you play in air that is more comfortable than in the city.

An area lined with well-known designers

Bogor gathers work by designers with playing records of their own: Greg Norman (Riverside), Gary Player (Sentul Highlands), Graham Marsh (Klub Golf Bogor Raya) and Ted Robinson (Rancamaya). Gunung Geulis and Permata Sentul, both by Thomson, Wolveridge & Perret, add to the list.

Palm Hill Golf Club was designed by Tom Matheson, with construction handled by Taisei of Japan.

At about 5,843 yards it is the shortest course in Bogor. It is not one you overpower with distance, but the option to reach for when you want to play in less time.

By the number of holes

Gunung Geulis Country Club has 36 holes across West and East, and Rainbow Hills Golf Club has 27 across three nine-hole loops. If you are playing on consecutive days, or would rather not repeat the same course, these two suit best.
