Golf on Batam
Batam is an island in the Riau Islands province at the western edge of Indonesia. It lies directly opposite Singapore, separated by a strait of only about 20 kilometres. From the 1970s it was developed as an industrial and free trade zone, and today manufacturing and resorts sit side by side on the island.
Nongsa in the northeast is a coastal resort district lined with beaches and hotels. Most of the golf courses gather there, on ground that looks out to sea. The climate and scenery differ from the cities of Java, and the island grew up as a destination where a short stay is enough to combine golf with a resort break.
Getting there from the airport and Singapore
The island’s air gateway is Hang Nadim International Airport. From there, Padang Golf Sukajadi is the closest at about 26 minutes, Tamarin Santana at Nongsa takes about 28 minutes and Palm Springs about 29 minutes. All six courses fall within 40 minutes of the airport.
From Singapore the usual route is the ferry, which docks at Nongsa or at the terminals around Batam Centre. From Jakarta there are domestic flights.
