Jeev Milkha Singh, born on December 15, 1971 in Chandigarh, is an Indian professional golfer. His father was Milkha Singh, who competed in track and field at the Olympic Games, and his mother captained the India women’s volleyball team; both died in 2021. While studying at Abilene Christian University in the United States he won the NCAA Division II individual title in 1993, and he turned professional that same year. In 1998 he became the first Indian to earn membership of the European Tour, and he has won on it four times: the Volvo China Open and the Volvo Masters in 2006, the Austrian Open (Bank Austria GolfOpen) in 2008 and the Scottish Open in 2012. In 2006 he became the first Indian golfer to reach the top 50 of the world ranking, and in 2007 the first Indian to play in the Masters. In that same year of 2007 the Indian government awarded him the Padma Shri, its civilian honour.
His work as a designer is Kensville Golf & Country Club, near Ahmedabad in the western Indian state of Gujarat. The Indian business magazine Forbes India reports that Singh designed this course some 40 kilometres from Ahmedabad, and presents course design as a field he intends to take further. From 2011 to 2013 it was the venue of the Gujarat Kensville Challenge, an event co-sanctioned by the European Challenge Tour and India’s professional tour, the PGTI.
As a player his main stage was Asia. He topped the Asian Tour Order of Merit in 2006 and 2008, and his wins there include the Philippine Classic in 1995 and the Singapore Open in 2008. On the Japan Golf Tour he won four times: the Casio World Open and the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup in 2006, and the Shigeo Nagashima Invitational Sega Sammy Cup and the JT Cup in 2008. GoGolf does not at present list any course designed by Jeev Milkha Singh.
