Phil Mickelson is an American professional golfer and golf course architect, born on June 16, 1970 in San Diego, California. His full name is Philip Alfred Mickelson, and he came out of Arizona State University. He plays left-handed and is known as Lefty. His six majors are the Masters in 2004, 2006 and 2010, the PGA Championship in 2005 and 2021, and the Open Championship in 2013. He has won 45 times on the PGA Tour and entered the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2012. Since June 2022 he has played in LIV Golf events.
The first course he designed is the Lower Course at Whisper Rock Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. He worked on it with the Dallas-based architect Gary Stephenson, and the pair are said to have worked through 43 routings before settling on the layout that was built; it opened in 2001. Mickelson National Golf Club in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is a course the Phil Mickelson Design team began reworking in 2014 and which opened in the summer of 2020, thirteen years after it was first conceived.
In Asia, the golf information site GolfPass lists two courses as Mickelson designs: Shanghai Agile Mickelson International Club in Shanghai, China, and Shining Star International Sports Club in Kunming, Yunnan. GoGolf does not at present list any course designed by Mickelson.
